About The Artist: Determined to become an artist, even against his parents wishes, Henri-Joseph Harpignies was finally allowed to attend Jean Archard's atelier in Paris at the age of 27. It was this training where he gained a sound constructive draughtsmanship, a marked feature of his landscape work. Additionally, he did decorative work for the Paris Opera and went on to teach many students who later became accomplished artists.
